Update: After I called and complained Justin (the owner) came out to fix the system. He did a great job. He added two new sprinkler heads that required 19 ft of new pipe - all at no cost to me. He apologized for there not being better communication between his crew leader and me. He really took the time to explain things to me, and help me understand the proper way to water my lawn in this horrible draught. i am very pleased and will use them again. Original post: Don't Hire them! I hired them in the spring because my sprinkler heads needed a tune up. They sent a crew out. Mostly hispanics that did not speak any english. The head guy in charge spoke some english, so I could let him know what I wanted done. They moved some sprinkler heads, added new heads and changed out some broken heads with new one heads. It was $480. I was happy. I thought I got my money worth. Well my lawn was dead pretty soon thereafter! I thought it must be fungus, since I just had my sprinkler system repaired. I should have re-checking the sprinker system myself instead of just assuming they did a good job. I should not have trusted that they did the job i paid them almost $500 to do. By august my lawn was awful, completely dead in some places, bare dirt in others and completely green in some places. However, all the BARE DIRTand DEAD GRASS areas where in the places that AMERICAN IRIIGIATION SUPPOSEDLY FIXED. So I thought -"i better check the sprinkler heads MYSELF" . I checked things and almost all the heads they replaced were NOT WORKING only a few months later. Or even worse - huge areas of my lawn were not getting any water at all! I paid these guys to move sprinklers and add sprinkler heads so i got maximum water coverage. Half the heads they added were watering MY NEIGHBORS LAWN!!! I'm paying the bill to have my neighbors lawn look good!!! That is not acceptable!!! So I call american Irrigation, the nice woman who answers the phone sent a repair crew out the next day. That was last week. I decided to check their "repairs" today about one week later. Well ITS NO BETTER!!!! I still have the wrong types of heads in zones - so there are huge areas that are NOT getting any water. My lawn is almost beyond repair. It will cost me $thousands to RESOD parts of my lawn DUE TO THEIR MISTAKES. Its sunday and i'm fuming, so I left a message on their machine saying that I want a MANAGER TO COME AND FIX THIS MESS OR I'M TAKING THEM TO SMALL CLAIMS COURT TO HAVE THEM PAY TO RESOD THE AREAS OF MY LAWN THAT THEIR NEGLIGENCE KILLED! i will keep you updated as to whether they repsond or not! Misteaks. We all make them. Sometimes they present you with a $320 water bill. Sometimes they come in the form of a rush to judgment. The difference is in how we make up for our mistakes. Such is the case with my experience with American Irrigation Repair. They performed the needed repair outlined below in my original review, and less than a year later, their repair failed. Like it or not, those are the facts. I read my invoice from the original repair, and found my warranty to be as I remembered it--six months. Therefore, I had every reason to expect that any subsequent repair by American would have been on my dime, and I elected to call another company instead to fix the problem American left behind. I was told by the new company I used that the slip joint coupling used to repair the broken later line was installed with the telescoping end in opposition to the direction of water flow. I was told that water pressure alone could likely have caused the fitting to collapse on itself and separate. I perceived this to have been a failure in the original installation and workmanship, and I firmly believe this is what actually happened. For those who read my earlier, more vituperative update of this review, you will note that I mentioned a dialog in progress with the owner of American. In addition to three private messages left for me here on Yelp, he also called me at work the next day. He was most distraught by my one-star review update, but even more so by the perception I left with the Yelp community that his company did not do quality work, did not own up to its mistakes, and did not stand behind its customers. The owner offered to come out and fix the problem at no cost to me, but I indicated that repair had already been made. He also offered to inspect the part that failed, and, unfortunately, that, too was no longer possible. He then offered to refund the cost of my original repair. Had I any inkling in advance that his warranty terms were less rigid than stated in writing, I would have been far more inclined to call American back to fix their error. In the spirit of fair play, I made a counter-offer that, instead of an outright refund, I be given a credit with his company against my next irrigation service. I felt that signified a mutual level of trust. In the end, the owner chose to refund the repair cost over my objections, rather than offer a service credit to me. He also respectfully and politely declined to provide future service to my address. C'est la vie. Some of you may ask "So, why the two star ratings boost?" "Did the owner buy his way out of a negative review?" Think nothing of the sort, and I honestly I haven't made up my mind yet as to whether I'll cash his check when it arrives. I took the high road and chose to be impressed by the owner's candor and his willingness to make things right. Most companies would have walked away after a year and told me to take a hike--and they would have genuinely earned their one-star review fair and square, no regrets. Instead, American asked what went wrong, and their owner apparently believes so much in the importance of customer satisfaction that he would rather refund a year-old repair rather than leave a legacy of ill will with a former customer. 8/14/2011 Previous review I have to amend my previous glowing review of American Irrigation Repair based on results. The repair that was performed by American failed less than a year later. That led to several thousand gallons of wasted water before I caught the problem and shut off the irrigation zone. American's written warranty is 6 months on the work performed. Therefore, I had no reasonable expectation of recourse with them, and decided to try another company. While American initially responded quickly, and performed a fast fix for a minimal charge, there was a significant cost associated with the subsequent failure, including a $320 water bill. ----- UPDATE: The owner is in dialog with me concerning this review update and is offering to make amends for the situation. I am very sorry the fitting gave way. We install all components according to manufacturers recommended installation methods, and are always looking for the best way to do things. I had a high water bill and thought there might be a leak in my sprinkler system. The repair man came by and was very helpful in walking through everything in my system with me. No leak was found, but he helped me to set my controller to reduce my water bill and gave me suggestions on watering times/frequencies. I will definitely use this company again! Ashly W. 07/13/11 |

Well, they came through again in a surprising way. Another company I had working on some masonry in the front yard buried a sprinkler head in mortar and a new part was required to fix it. Rather than waiting on that company to do the job, I got with American Irrigation Repair again and Justin shot me straight -- he had the part on hand -- and in literally a few short minutes of breaking ground, the system was working as good as new. I owe a BIG thank you to American Irrigation Repair. I busted a pipe doing some digging in my front yard, and they came highly recommended. They did a great job, quickly, and for a great price. In addition to the pipe that I broke, they found a sprinkler head that had been stuck below the yard surface for months and fixed it on their own initiative, without fuss and without charging more than the agreed upon price. I've used the Company multiple times now after inheriting an old sprinkler system. A little frazzled in scheduling but overall they are a fantastic value. Service technician (Ed Mitchum) has being very professional and knows what he's doing. Juan Valadez and his partner arrived on time (early, even) and got right to work. My sprinkler stations weren't responding to the control box programming. Juan found the problem right away, fixed it, did a little more investigating and found another problem that probably would have had me calling them right back had he not fixed it then and there. He even gave me tips on how to properly water my lawn without watering the street so much. It didn't cost me near as much as what I was expecting either! That always works! So it's July in Texas and my sprinkler system stops working just as the 100 degree heat kicks in and the storms stop. Based on reviews online for the folks that installed the system I decided against Phoenix and went with American Irrigation to help me figure it out. The appointment person was very friendly and they had plenty of times available for them to come out. When they guys got here they went over to the controller box and within 2 minutes figured out I had a faulty rain switch and turned it off and the sprinklers were fixed. No charge. That's right, he opened the controller box and flipped a switch. I smiled to myself, being from Oregon and knowing nothing about sprinkler systems, and asked how much to I owe. He said, oh nothing just call us next time when you need word done. That I will do, this is the kind of company I want to work with. Honest and don't charge you a travel or diagnostic fee to come out and flip a switch I was too dumb to know about. They get it done I had to wait a few weeks before they could make it to my house. I wonder if that is because they get repeat business and back up in the summer. This company was awesome. They showed me how to use my system, fixed some electrical problems, and a couple heads that had gone bad. The total time they were here was about an hour. In that time they had the entire system tested, fixed, and even helped me with a schedule to make the most of the system using the least amount of water. I highly recommend American Irrigation. Wow. American Irrigation Repair came out today to fix a stress-fractured lateral in my sprinkler system on a scheduled call. Had I wanted, they could have been here a day or two sooner, but I couldn't get off work that quickly. American Irrigation gave me a two hour window for the service, and they made their window with an hour to spare. In fact, considering it was a particularly nasty break and a full system check was involved, they were even done before the the service window expired. I was charged for a system tune-up and materials, which wound up being less than the hourly rate of many of their competitors. Their service technician was incredibly courteous and thoughtful, even offering to come back later given that I was simultaneously dealing with an emergent medical condition (i.e. one short step away from calling EMS) with my Dad at the time. I've now worked with three sprinkler system companies in Austin: Gorbet Lawn Sprinker Company, Phoenix Irrigation, and American Irrigation Repair. Gorbet is no longer in business, having sold out to Phoenix several years ago, and Phoenix couldn't get to me for 9 days. Next time I have a problem with my sprinkler system that I don't have the capability to self-repair, there is no question who I will call. After receiving a very large water bill from the city, I had a hunch that I had a leak. It had been 7 years since my sprinkler system was installed, so I figured I'd have them check for leaks and do an overall system check. They were easy to schedule with - gave me a two hour window, and called 1/2 before they arrived. Right on time. The technician was friendly, informative, and easy to deal with. He showed me where we had two leaks, and we discussed repair options and costs before any work was done. An hour later, the leaks were fixed, and an overall system check revealed a couple of sprinkler heads that were blocked. They cleaned out the blocked heads at no charge. He even suggested reducing the time that each zone watered, so as to further reduce my water bill. Overall, a great experience. I will definitely call these guys again should the need arise.
